Carragher claims ‘£70m’ PL star wouldn’t be good enough to play for Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 21st September, that he doesn’t think Jack Grealish is good enough for Liverpool.

Grealish caused a great deal of surprise when he penned a new long-term contact with Aston Villa, despite interest from some higher placed clubs.

But Carragher wasn’t particularly shocked that Grealish did commit his future to Villa, as he doesn’t feel that the newly capped England international is actually good enough for the likes of Liverpool or Manchester City.

“I think Jack is in a position similar to Zaha at Palace, where the type of money to get him out of the club you are talking £60 or £70 million,” he said.

“I don’t think they are quite good enough to play for Liverpool or Manchester City, and teams just below the top four I don’t think they’d want to pay the money to get him.”

Grealish is slightly different to most of Liverpool’s current midfield options in truth.

The closest comparison that Liverpool have stylistically is Naby Keita, and Grealish had a more productive campaign than the Guinean last term.

While Keita struggled to stay fit, Grealish scored eight goals and provided six assists for Dean Smith’s side.

Villa will be reliant on Grealish’s to be in top form again this term, as they look to avoid relegation far more comfortably than they did last season.
