Jamie Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that Sadio Mane was Liverpool’s best player by a ‘long way’ during their 1-0 defeat to Southampton.

The TV pundit also thinks Mane shouldn’t have been awarded a penalty after claims that Kyle Walker–Peters fouled the Liverpool attacker whilst trying to lunge for the ball.

There were actually a number of penalty claims from the Liverpool players during the game, but both the on-field referee and VAR saw nothing untoward.

After the game, Carragher shared why Liverpool’s £36 million man [BBC Sport] shouldn’t have been awarded a spot-kick against Walker-Peters.

“I thought he was Liverpool’s best player by a long way,” said Carragher. “I think Mane kicks the back of his [Walker-Peters] calf. That’s where it could be a penalty,

“But it’s not. Mane hits the back of him – I don’t think that’s a penalty.”

But it hasn’t been the case, and if it continues like this, then come the end of the season there may well be more than three teams battling it out for the main prize.
