Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports during their live coverage of Liverpool’s defeat to Everton on Saturday that Mason Holgate left Sadio Mane ‘frustrated’ at Anfield because of how he dealt with the forward.
More salt was added to Liverpool’s wounds yesterday when Champions League-chasing Everton rocked up with their trophy-laden coach and piled more misery on their neighbours with two goals in either half.
Just after the hour mark, Mane was booked by Chris Kavanagh for a foul on Holgate after he didn’t allow the Liverpool £34m forward (BBC Sport) any time on the ball.
Carragher shared his thoughts on Mane’s reaction to giving away the foul and how Holgate was dealing with his threat.
“You can see Sadio Mane frustrated,” said Carragher. “But that’s a silly yellow card.
“That’s frustration. And the frustration comes from the job that man (Holgate) has done on him, Mason Holgate.
“Real tight. Aggressive. Right throughout the game. There has been no space on that side.
“That’s why you have seen Mane wonder on that side.”

The form of the Liverpool players from Mane to Alexander-Arnold has fallen off a cliff and one that they may not recover from this season.
Forget about the title. those in red will now seriously be worried about losing Champions League football because they are now chasing, rather than being hunted.
That win in Europe in midweek clearly didn’t help their cause, and whilst some question whether it can get worse, well it is, it can and there aren’t any signs that it won’t get any better.
