Both Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen have suggested that Aston Villa were harshly treated against Manchester City last night.

Villa lost 2-0 to Manchester City, but they fell behind in a hugely controversial manner.

Rodri was miles offside when a lofted ball was kicked forward by his City teammate, which Mings opted to take down.

Rodri then sparked into life and tackled the Villa central defender, before passing the ball on to Bernando Silva who scored from outside the box.

Most Villa players expected the goal to be ruled out, but it was deemed to be a legitimate strike.

And Carragher and Owen both felt that Villa could feel aggrieved by the decision.

Villa boss Dean Smith was certainly unhappy with the call, and he was sent off for his protests by referee John Moss.

Villa’s defeat to City means that they remain in 11th place in the Premier League table, although they have games in hand on many of the teams around them.
