Carney Chukwuemeka is back at Bodymoor Heath probably edging closer to the Aston Villa exit door, whilst another highly-rated youngster, Cameron Archer, thrives in pre-season in Australia.

Aston Villa beat Brisbane Roar 1-0 in their pre-season friendly on Wednesday, with Archer coming off the bench and scoring the winning goal.

When the 20-year-old expressed his delight at his goal on Instagram, a certain Chukwuemeka sent a one-word message to the player in the comments section: ‘Goated’.

Understandably so, a fair few Villa fans responded to Chukwuemeka’s message telling him to ‘sign the contract’, but given his current situation, it’s more likely he will leave or see out his current deal.

The ice-cool midfielder has less than 12 months remaining on his contract, with the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund circling for his signature.

Will any of them put a transfer fee down for his talents this summer? Or know that they have to wait six months and they can then sign him on a pre-contract agreement in January?

Either way, the situation hasn’t helped Villa’s cause and they are losing a big, big talent and perhaps the biggest currently in their academy.

ARCHER SHOWING THE WAY FORWARD

One player that has got the Villa fans on their feet is their red-hot striker, Archer, who seems to be turning everything into gold.

The former England U21 international can’t stop scoring, whether he is in Villa colours, Preston’s, or the England under-21’s.

Steven Gerrard has a big call to make regarding his future and that’s whether to loan him out, or keep him on board ahead of the new Premier League season.

Well, judging by how the strikers are performing in pre-season, he can make an argument to start the Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
