Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer has backed his old side’s alleged pursuit of Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley.

Bartley spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Leeds, who narrowly missed out on the play-offs that campaign.

But his Elland Road displays convinced Swansea to keep him to themselves last summer, handing the 26-year-old a new long-term contract in the meantime.

And Leeds certainly appear to have missed him, with 12th the highest they can finish heading into their season finale against Queens Park Rangers.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites are already in talks to bring Bartley back to the club, after he fell out of favour under new Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal.

And speaking to Proper Sport on Tuesday, Palmer said: “Yeah, absolutely (Bartley would be a good addition).

“He’s a cut above the Championship to be fair, and that’s the type of player you need to get out of that league. When we got promoted at Sheffield Wednesday, all the players really in our side were all Premier League players, we were way ahead of the Championship and that proved to be the case.”

Asked why it has not worked out for Bartley, who has missed a large chunk of the campaign through injury, at Swansea, the former England international replied: “I don’t know. It’s difficult. Some managers fancy players and some don’t. That’s why some players go and play at a different club, play for a different manager, and you see a different performer.”

Will Bartley return to Leeds United during the summer transfer window?
