The former Leeds United midfielder has rubbished talk of his old side burning out.
Carlton Palmer is backing Andrea Radrizzani to ‘put his hand in his pocket’ and fund new signings at Leeds United… but not before the close of the loan-to-buy window.
Leeds have only added five new recruits this summer – three of whom have arrived at Elland Road on loan – while the permanent captures of Patrick Bamford and Barry Douglas were all but balanced out by the sale of Ronaldo Vieira to Sampdoria.
That has not however stopped Marcelo Bielsa’s side from storming to the top of the Championship table with four games played, although some fear that, without further signings, the Whites are in danger of burning out as the season progresses.
But speaking to Proper Sport on Wednesday, Palmer, the former Leeds midfielder, said: “Everybody’s talking about burnout. But let’s not worry about burnout. Team spirit comes around by getting results.
“And I think if Bielsa’s there or thereabouts at Christmas you will see the chairman [Radrizzani] put his hand in his pocket, without a shadow of a doubt.
“Because like I said, the prize in the Premier League is enormous and if you’ve got a fantastic opportunity to get there then you have to take an educated gamble and you’ve got to bring players in that can also, if you do go up, keep you in the Premier League.”
Reports suggest Bielsa is still in the market for two new recruits, although speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post after Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City, the Leeds head coach played down the need to bring in reinforcements.
