The Celtic striker has had kind words to say about Downes.

Last week finally saw Celtic complete a long and protracted agreement to bring in former England international Carlton Cole on a free transfer.

The Bhoys have been looking for solutions in the transfer market for a shortage of strikers and in the end a deal was done for the former West Ham United striker, released by the club for a second time this summer, to join Celtic.

Of course Cole worked with some real characters at Upton Park – perhaps none more so than Wally Downes.

The former Brentford manager was first-team coach at West Ham during Cole’s time at the club but surprisingly left the club in December 2012.

Downes has recently penned a book on the Crazy Gang at Wimbledon, of which he was an integral part, and Cole has tweeted about the book and Downes today:

It certainly seems that Downes has a fan in Celtic newbie Carlton Cole.

Currently the former West Ham first-team coach is not working in football management after leaving QPR in July 2014 but is being considered for the job at Swindon Town in League One.
