Carlos Ulberg has his sights set on achieving something truly historic in the UFC.

On Saturday night, he solidified his reputation as a top light heavyweight contender, extending his winning streak to nine with a victory over a two-time title challenger.

Headlining UFC Perth, Ulberg made quick work of Dominick Reyes, finishing him inside the first round. The win helped build a case for his first title shot in the sport’s biggest promotion.

With that performance, Ulberg could find himself in line to face either Magomed Ankalaev or Alex Pereira next year. But he’s not looking that far ahead – he wants his chance at gold even sooner.

Ankalaev is set to defend his title against Pereira in their rematch at UFC 320, and although no backup has been confirmed yet, Ulberg told Hunter Campbell after the Perth fight that he wanted the spot.

Speaking at his post-fight press conference, Ulberg said he plans to be in Las Vegas for October 4th regardless of whether he is officially involved or not.

He aims to make history as the first fighter to challenge for a title only one week after his last Octagon appearance.

“I was speaking to Hunter just after the fight. I asked him to fly me out (for UFC 320).

“I also said then and there that I’d back up that fight. I’m here to break records, man. That’s what I want.

“I don’t think anybody has, from the top of my head…fought a fight and then also the very next weekend, fought for the title. That is what I envision, that is what I feel like can happen.

“I’ll get the job done.”

The only fighter ever to do it was Loopy Godinez in 2021 when she beat Silvana Gomez Juarez before falling short against Luana Carolina.

Magomed Ankalaev open to Carlos Ulberg as a future challenger

Ulberg’s title ambitions got an early boost even before his fight in Perth, with Ankalaev showing interest in facing the Kiwi down the line.

“To be honest, the fight this week between Reyes and Ulberg is much more interesting to me because (Prochazka and Rountree) fought for the title multiple times – we’ve watched them in title fights.

“But the fight coming up this week is new guys. I mean, yeah, Reyes fought for the title before, but the other guy, (Ulberg) – I’m interested in this fight more than the other fight,” the titleholder stated in a UFC 320 media session.
