Carles Puyol has heaped praise on Liverpool superstar Luis Diaz after the winger scored a sensational equaliser for the Reds at Anfield on Monday night – but the Reds were frustrated by Patrick Vieira’s men, the game ending 1-1.
Liverpool dominated from start to finish as Vieira looked to frustrate Jurgen Klopp’s side. Plenty of chances were missed, before Palace hit Liverpool on the counter attack, scoring through Wilfried Zaha midway through the first 45.
Klopp’s men continued to dominate, but the flashpoint of the match came just before the hour mark. Darwin Nunez, provoked by Palace defender Joachim Andersen, retaliated by planting his face into Andersen. Straight red card.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Diaz took the game by the scruff of the neck and curled a wonderful effort past Vicente Guaita. A second draw from their opening two games, but it could have been a lot worse after Nunez’s red.
Despite a poor result for the Reds, which sees them already four points behind Manchester City, Diaz was a positive. Puyol has applauded the Liverpool man following his goal on Twitter, branding him as “amazing”.

What a player Diaz is. Liverpool really need him. Following the sale of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, the Reds desperately require a player like the Senegalese man to step up – and Diaz could be that man to fill his shoes.
Nunez has come in as his replacement and has made a good start – two goals in two. But his red card on Monday night shows his inexperience. He will now be missing for three games, following the headbutt on Andersen.
But Diaz channels his aggression in the same way Mane does. Passionate, incredible work rate. He does that, twinned with unbelievable quality. Puyol is right, the Colombian is “amazing”.
