Manchester United target has an unusual inspiration to ‘help his family.’
Manchester United linked Carlos Mane has had quite a rise to prominence over the past few months.
The former NextGen Series star has established himself in the Sporting Lisbon first team, winning a call-up to the Portugal under-21 side.
His name has even been mentioned as a target for Manchester United’s summer rebuild under David Moyes, with the Mail dubbing him the ‘new Ronaldo’.
The 19-year-old, who has four goals in 12 appearances for Sporting this month, was quizzed by the Portuguese media about his link to the Red Devils and responded coyly.
“It’s always good to know that big clubs are interested in us, but now I’m focused on my selection at under-21.”
That’s not all though for the more fascinating part of Mane’s tale is yet to come.
Newspaper A Bola allege that his father is wanted by police for drug trafficking. It’s a position which Mane himself acknowledges and does not deny.
He stated: “When I heard of this situation was sad. However, it is something that gives me even more strength to work and help my family.”
