Carles Gil’s reported move to MLS proves Aston Villa were right to get rid of him

Former Aston Villa midfielder Carles Gil is reportedly a transfer target for an MLS club.

It is fair to say that former Aston Villa playmaker Carles Gil failed to live up to expectations at the club prior to his permanent departure in the summer.

The 26-year-old moved to the Midlands from Spanish outfit Valencia in January 2015, when Paul Lambert was still in the Villa Park dugout.

Gil’s time at the club was pretty much short-lived as he made only 34 appearances in a Claret & Blue shirt, sandwiched between a number of loan spells, before leaving for Deportivo de La Coruna last summer, as confirmed by the Birmingham Mail.

Now, Spanish outlet El Ideal Gallego claim that Gil could be on his way out once again as he could be heading to the MLS to play for the New England Revolution.

If reports are true then it further signifies that Villa were right to part ways with the playmaker, who played all of his games for Villa when they were in the Premier League.

Initially, Gil’s career in B6 started off in spectacular fashion when he scored a wonder goal against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

But since that strike, he failed to push on as then-Villa manager Tim Sherwood ousted him from the team completely before he was brought back in during Remi Garde’s ill-fated reign.

Unfortunately for Gil, in many years down the line, he won’t be remembered too fondly by the Villa faithful when they look back on some of the club’s worst signings.
