Aston Villa have snapped up John Terry on a free transfer.
Aston Villa have snapped up defender John Terry on a free transfer from Chelsea – and former Villa ace Carlos Cuellar has taken to Twitter to react.
Villa had been quiet in the transfer market this summer, but have now pulled off one of the most audacious moves in the Championship.
John Terry
Defender Terry may be 36, but he remains one of the most decorated names in English football having won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and three League Cups, as well as the Champions League and Europa League.
After more than 700 appearances for Chelsea, Terry has finally left Stamford Bridge, where he had been captain for 13 years – and it’s Villa who have secured his signature.
Villa boss Steve Bruce has pounced to hand Terry a one-year contract at Villa Park, and he will now charged with the task of being the on-field leader as the club pursue promotion back to the Premier League.
Terry may be entering the final stages of his career, but this is a signing that has grabbed the headlines this week – and former Villa players have been offering their views on the deal.
Carlos Cuellar
Former Villa defender Carlos Cuellar – who made over 100 appearances for the club – has taken to Twitter to call Terry a ‘legend’, having enjoyed such a glittering career at Chelsea.
The Spaniard added that he wishes Terry luck at Villa Park, and believes he will love playing for the club – even if it’s only a one year contract.
