Leeds United’s Under-23 boss Carlos Corberan believes that Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Paudie O’Connor are both ready to stay in and around Paul Heckingbottom’s senior squad now.

O’Connor made his Leeds debut in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland at Elland Road, earning praise for his performance alongside Pontus Jansson in central defence.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Peacock-Farrell, who was Man of the Match against the Black Cats, has been brilliant since becoming Heckingbottom’s first-choice keeper last month.

The Spanish coach knows a lot about the duo after playing them for much of the season at youth level.

And Corberan says that both have the talent to stay in United’s first-team squad rather than drop back down to the U-23s.

He told LUTV: “I’m always very happy when I see [youth] players in the first team. I think Paudie showed that he can [succeed] in the first team. He’s got a very good personality.

“And Bailey has one too. He has started playing in the last four games and both players are showing they are ready.”

With Leeds still enduring an injury crisis at centre-back, O’Connor might well start tonight’s trip to Preston, while Peacock-Farrell is guaranteed to keep his place between the posts.
