Swansea City’s Ki Sung-yueng’s contract is set to expire in the summer.
Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal raved about the character of Ki Sung-yueng, when speaking to reporters, and shared the promise that the South Korea international made to him in January, as quoted by Wales Online.
The Swans have dramatically improved since the Portuguese took over the club at the end of December, and they now sit in 18th position in the Premier League table, separated from safety purely because of an inferior goal difference.
They now stand a very good chance of avoiding the drop, and things seem a whole lot more positive than they did just two months ago.
Ki will surely have a pivotal role to play for the Welsh side over the next couple of months, but his commitment has been questioned, due to the fact that his contract is set to expire in the summer.
Carvalhal refuted that claim, however, when speaking to reporters, and opened up on the promise made to him by the 29-year-old last month, as quoted by Wales online:
“The situation with Ki is very clear. I spoke to him when he was injured. We agreed with each other. He is a very high-quality man, not just a player but a high-quality man. He promised to me he would give everything for the rest of the season to try to help the team stay in the Premier League. That is what I know about Ki.”
The South Korean has chipped in with just one goal and two assists for the Swans this season, but his overall influence on Carvalhal’s side cannot be underestimated, and they will certainly need him to be at his very best for the remainder of the campaign.
