The Sheffield Wednesday head coach saw his side well beaten by Sheffield United on Sunday.
Wednesday lost the two sides’ first meeting in five and a half years 4-2 at Hillsborough, with ex Owls striker Leon Clarke getting two of United’s goals.
It was the first time Carvalhal’s team had conceded four goals in a single home game under his reign, against a United one which, albeit renowned for being well organised, was considered inferior by many ahead of kick off.
When asked afterwards what his message would be to those inevitably questioning his future at the club, the Portuguese replied: “I’m doing my best, my players did their best. We did a game with mistakes – everybody (makes) mistakes.
“And again, the mistakes of my players is my responsibility, so I accept all the responsibility comes to me – no problem.”
Wednesday fell behind in only the third minute, courtesy of John Fleck’s low shot from a free kick taken short by the impressive David Brooks.
It was the third game running in which the Owls had conceded following a set piece, but Carvalhal insisted his team have been working on them at both ends of the pitch.
“Again we’re training a lot (on) set pieces, defensive and offensive. I must train (set pieces) more, training all the days, instead (of) training maybe twice the corners and free kicks.”
