Sheffield Wednesday were without three of last season’s regulars, as well as new signing George Boyd, for Tuesday’s 2-1 victory against Brentford at Hillsborough.
Captain Glenn Loovens, key midfielder Sam Hutchinson and Fernando Forestieri, the Owls’ top scorer in each of the past two campaigns, were all absent as Carlos Carvalhal’s side picked up their third win out of four to go sixth in the Championship.
Despite the transfer window closing last month, Carvalhal can still add free agents to his squad – should he wish to.

But when asked whether he intends to explore such a possibility, the Portuguese told BBC Radio Sheffield: “In this moment no, I must tell you.
“We have players who can give a lot, (but) they didn’t give so far. Marco Matias, Lucas Joao… Atdhe (Nuhiu) was out, (Morgan) Fox was out today, (also) the players that were on the bench and didn’t play.
“So we have the players. We must – I don’t know in English – put the juice, do this (presses his hands together) to the lemon to give all the juice to the players that we have.
“I believe we have quality here, sometimes it’s a question of opportunity.”

Four Wednesday players, Steven Fletcher, Kieran Lee, Ross Wallace and Jack Hunt, went into the Brentford game carrying knocks, although of those only Fletcher failed to complete the full 90 minutes.
The Owls travel to second-placed Cardiff City on Saturday, before city rivals Sheffield United visit Hillsborough the following Sunday.
And Carvalhal’s side round off a busy few weeks weeks with a trip to Birmingham City three days later.
