Carlos Carvalhal has claimed Swansea City Under-23 manager Cameron Toshack could be a ‘good option’ for Barnsley.

The Sun reported on Wednesday that Barnsley are in talks with Toshack about succeeding Paul Heckingbottom as manager.

However, speaking to Swansea’s official Youtube channel on Thursday, Carvalhal insisted he did not know anything about the speculation – although he went on to suggest that the 47-year-old would leave with his blessing.

“I didn’t know about that, you are giving me new (information),” said the Swansea manager. “I don’t know, but if it’s good for the club and good for him I think it’s great.

“He’s working with the boys, Barnsley is also a club that put a lot of young players and discover players from another division, they are doing very good work about that, and if he has [the opportunity] to work with the boys he can be a good option.

“But as I tell you, it’s news to me.”

Toshack, the son of former Swansea and Liverpool legend John Toshack, led Swansea’s U18 team to consecutive FAW Youth titles, before guiding their U23s to the Premier League 2 Division 2 crown in 2017.

The Welshman is one of several names linked with the Barnsley vacancy, along with St Mirren’s Jack Ross and Blackpool’s Gary Bowyer.

The Tykes are currently 22nd in the Championship, following Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Carvalhal’s old side, Sheffield Wednesday.
