A recent report suggested that Leeds United had already opened talks about a summer deal for Kyle Bartley.

In comments reported by Wales Online, Carlos Carvalhal has suggested that he has heard nothing in connection with reports that Leeds are already in talks with Kyle Bartley regarding a potential summer move to Elland Road.

The Yorkshire Evening Post recently reported that Bartley is a key summer target for the Championship side one year after he left the club following the end of a season-long loan which saw the centre-back establish himself as a hugely important figure in the side.

The report from the Yorkshire Evening Post added that talks regarding a potential deal for the 26-year-old were already underway. But Carvalhal has suggested that the idea of discussions beginning already is news to him.

“It is the first time I hear about that, I never discuss anything with the club about players coming or going out,” he said, as reported by Wales Online.

“It is the same, everything about players for next season is speculation as I have not spoken about it and I will not comment on that especially at this moment where we have more important things to do.”

Regardless of whether he is telling the truth or holding back infortmation, it is unsurprising that Carvalhal has looked to make little comment about Bartley’s future as the Swans find themselves in a real precarious position in the Premier League, with just one point separating them from the bottom three heading into the final handful of games.

And their performance in their final three games could have a major say on Leeds’ hopes of landing Bartley, with the Yorkshire Evening Post’s report suggesting that Swansea will only consider bids if they manage to stay up due to the defender’s impressive year in the Championship last season.

Given how popular Bartley – who earns £28,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – was during his time at Elland Road, and how much he has been missed, it would hardly be a surprise if a large section of the Whites faithful were throwing their support behind Carvalhal’s men during the final three games in the hope that they manage to keep their heads above water.
