Sheffield Wednesday have been heavily linked with Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he is looking to bring in a new centre-back this summer.

Wednesday have a lack of options at the back currently, and Carvalhal has made it a priority to strengthen in centre of his defence.

However, things have proved difficult for the Owls so far in the transfer window.

George Boyd has arrived at Hillsborough, but Carvalhal has found value hard to find.

Wednesday are scouring the market for a new defender, but are yet to find a player they want to sign who represents good value for money.

Wednesday have been linked with Newcastle United’s Grant Hanley by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

And Carvalhal has confirmed that his side are in the market for a new centre-back: “Everyone knows that we need two centre-halves.

“But it is not easy to bring in players at the level of our team. Everything is very expensive and we try to do our best. Let’s see what the next few days brings.”

Wednesday currently have Glenn Loovens and Tom Lees as their only senior options at centre-back.

The Owls begin their campaign at the start of August, when they take on Preston North End at Deepdale.
