Carlos Carvalhal has named in The Times three Sheffield Wednesday players who understand football.
Carvalhal was in charge of Wednesday in the Championship in England from the summer of 2015 until December 2017.
The former Swansea City boss has said that Wednesday trio Barry Bannan, Sam Hutchinson and Kieran Lee understand football.
Midfielder Bannan, 28, has been at Wednesday since 2015, while 29-year-old Hutchinson – who can operate as a right-back or as a midfielder – moved to the Owls in 2014.
Midfielder Lee, 30, joined Wednesday in the summer of 2012 after leaving Oldham Athletic at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.
Carvalhal told The Times: “When I was at Wednesday I chose players who understand football, Barry Bannan, Sam Hutchinson, Kieran Lee. These are the players I like.”
Pushing for promotion
Wednesday endured a disappointing campaign in the Championship last season, but the Owls are doing well at the moment.
Jos Luhukay’s side are 10th in the Championship table at the moment with 14 points from nine matches, just two points behind sixth-placed Derby County.
The Owls are very much among the sides aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship this season, and perhaps they could even challenge for an automatic promotion spot.
