The Portuguese is staying at Sheffield Wednesday following doubts about his future.

Carlos Carvalhal has revealed how many new signings he hopes to bring to Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Carvalhal agreed to extend his spell as Owls head coach on Tuesday and is immediately focused on the coming campaign, less than a week after seeing his side beaten on penalties by Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off semi-finals.

Wednesday have invested heavily over the past two summers, bringing in 15 and nine new faces in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

However, a reduction in quantity is to be anticipated this time around, according to Carvalhal.

“This season we are more ready,” the Portuguese told the Owls’ official Youtube channel. “We have more strength in the team, and of course we want to progress the team.

“We want to bring not a revolution but maybe we can concentrate more on four or five players to try to improve the team, to do better.”

Wednesday’s past failure to get new recruits through the door on time caused, arguably, as many problems as integration itself.

And it’s an issue of which Carvalhal is very aware.

He added: “We hope that in the beginning of the season we can start better than in the two previous seasons.”

Last week, Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has vowed to do “everything possible and in my power” to ensure that promotion is achieved at the third attempt [official site].

However, with the permanent transfer of Jordan Rhodes set to eat away at Carvalhal’s budget, a clearout of players is perhaps to be expected over the coming weeks.
