Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal has insisted to the Sheffield Star that he has no issues with the Hillsborough crowd booing.

Wednesday have improved recently, and have taken maximum points from their last two fixtures.

However, there was a stage of the season where the Owls players and Carvalhal were having to take on board a lot of criticism from their own supporters.

And Carvalhal admits that he has no issue with the way that Wednesday fans have backed their team this term.

He said: “When we lose games, the fans boo and that is absolutely normal. I would do the same.

“But the supporters have been with me, the players and the chairman in the last three games. We have been together. “If the fans weren’t with us, why would they come to the games and sing at the beginning of the games? Why?”

Wednesday’s latest victory over Aston Villa was particularly impressive, as Steve Bruce’s side had been in great form going into the contest.

Villa had won six of their last seven matches, but the Owls caused an upset at Villa Park to outline their own promotion hopes.

The pressure on Carvalhal is now significantly reduced, but Wednesday will be hoping that the two week international break does not disrupt their momentum.

The Owls are currently in 11th place in the Championship table, and return to action with a match against Bristol City in two weekends’ time.
