Sheffield Wednesday are currently in sixth place in the Championship table.
Carlos Carvalhal has told the Sheffield Telegraph that he has been trying to sign a new centre-back for Sheffield Wednesday ever since the start of the season.
The Owls options in defence are not as strong as they are going forward, and Carvalhal’s men could have to field a makeshift backline tomorrow, when they take on Birmingham City.
Tom Lees is a doubt for the match, due to injury, and Carvalhal admits that he has been looking to strengthen his defence for some time.

“A centre-half is something we have tried to find since the beginning of the season but all of the top centre-halves are very expensive,” Carvalhal said. “We decided we would bring someone in if the player could be better than the players we have.
“We didn’t find any players at a price that are better than we have so we decided to stick with the players we have and give confidence to them.”

Despite not completing a deal for a centre-back, Wednesday made three additions during the January transfer window.
The Owls’ snapped up Morgan Fox, Sam Winnall and, most notably, Jordan Rhodes.
If Lees does miss tomorrow’s match against Birmingham, Vincent Sasso is likely to make it into Wednesday’s starting line-up.
Wednesday are currently in sixth place in the Championship table, and would strengthen their position in the play offs with a victory tomorrow.
