Carlos Bocanegra hopes Rangers agree deal with Matt Polster

Glasgow Rangers have reportedly offered Matt Polster a contract at Ibrox.

Former Rangers captain Carlos Bocanegra has told Mail Sport that he expects Matt Polster to do well in the Scottish Premiership, and is hoping that he agrees terms on a deal at Ibrox.

The Daily Record reports that Polster has received an offer from the Gers as Steven Gerrard looks to get another signing through the door this month.

He is not a player that many of the Ibrox faithful would have been aware of before the links with the Gers emerged. But Bocanegra insisted that the 25-year-old has all the attributes needed to be a fantastic signing for Gerrard’s side.

“He’s a hard-working guy who can play in midfield or at right-back. He’s an excellent player with a lot of qualities,” he told Mail Sport. “I’m sure he’d be suited to Scottish football and he’s now got the chance to join one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“It would be a great move for him and he seems to be really excited about it so I hope it happens.”

With signings such as Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis already through the door, Polster would arguably arrive under slightly less pressure as all eyes will be on how they do during the coming months – especially with the utility man potentially coming in on a free transfer.

But it is arguably a major statement that Rangers have offered him a contract. Gerrard is not short of quality options in midfield or defence, so the fact that Polster has shown enough to receive an offer is telling.

And while he may not appear to be the most exciting addition of the window if he does join, perhaps Bocanegra’s comments suggest that he has the potential to prove a much more inspired signing than many would have expected.
