Carlos Bacca could be about to entice a huge scramble for his signature, with his agent revealing that he could depart Milan sooner rather than later.
The Premier League’s top sides will surely be on red alert as the agent of AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca admits that his client may consider a move away from the San Siro in the near future, as reported by Football Italia.
The Colombian international has been in prolific form since he arrived from Sevilla, netting 23 goals in 43 Serie A appearances for a Milan side who have struggled to create chances for the most part in recent months before a resurgence under new boss Vincenzo Montella.
Consequently, suggestions by Bacca’s agent that the 30-year-old would give thought to a departure will surely pique the interest of a number of Premier League clubs, regardless of his swelling price tag.
“Carlos is a forward who at this moment is priceless,” Bacca’s representative, Sergio Barila, told Colombian publication El Heraldo, as reported by Football Italia.
“Of course there are many offers for him and if he continues like this then he’ll be worth more than the €30m proposed over the summer.
“He is happy at Milan and Milan are happy to have kept hold of him. But if interesting offers were to arrive, the situation could change.”
West Ham agreed a £26 million deal with Milan in the summer, according to The Guardian, only for the deal to fall through after the club failed to agree personal terms, with Champions League football high on Bacca’s list of demands.
The Hammers’ sluggish form at the start of the season means they are facing an uphill battle to retain their Europa League place, yet alone a seat at Europe’s top table, effectively ruling them out once the race resumes.
As a result, the Premier League’s chasing pack are faced with another incentive for Champions League qualification, with the striker who inspired Sevilla to the 2015 Europa League title potentially open to their advances, with Arsenal and Liverpool appearing a perfect fit.
Alexis Sanchez (below) has filled in admirably in a number nine role this season for Arsenal but whether he can maintain the goalscoring ratio required for a title push remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud remain consistent only in their inconsistency and month-long goal droughts do not go hand-in-hand with a title push.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, although the joint-highest scorers in the league lack a guaranteed, 20-goal-a-season forward, with Daniel Sturridge seemingly out-of-favour and unreliable and Divock Origi possessing the talent but lacking the constant, clinical edge.
Despite their rampant creation of chances, Liverpool continue to squander too many openings and allow opponents, like West Brom at the weekend, back into a contest that should have been wrapped up long ago. The addition of Bacca, then, could save Klopp a few palpatations on the touchline.
Therefore, the availability of the Colombian, a prolific taker of chances with a remarkable goals-per-game ratio, plus the speed and directness to burst in behind defences and finish emphatically one-on-one, could add an extra edge to any side harbouring hopes of bettering their nearly-men status.
