Alcaraz talks about his main improvement before the next Monte-Carlo match
Carlos Alcaraz has made a solid start to his clay court season, looking comfortable as he begins his title defence at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
The Spaniard opened his campaign with a straight-sets win over Sebastian Baez and will now face Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the next round.
Alcaraz finds himself on the easier side of the draw compared to Jannik Sinner, who comes into the tournament after a busy run through the Sunshine Double.
Speaking ahead of his second match in Monte Carlo, Alcaraz shared what he feels has been his biggest improvement this year.

Alcaraz picks out the main area of his game that he feels has improved this season
Speaking to Eurosport France, Alcaraz said he’s noticed a clear improvement in his serve, something he’s put plenty of work into recently.
“If I have to single out one in particular, it’s my serve. I’ve already invested a lot of time in that aspect, not only on the court but also off it,” he explained.
“How to improve my movement, my throw, my technique, my feel. I’ve worked on it a lot; for me, it’s crucial to visualise it both on and off the court.”
The 2026 season has seen both Sinner and Alcaraz make noticeable gains with their serves as they continue their rise at the top of the sport.
The two are currently battling for the world number one ranking at Monte-Carlo. Should Sinner come out on top there, he’ll reclaim the top spot for the first time since last year’s US Open.
Carlos Alcaraz’s Monte-Carlo Masters history
This is only Alcaraz’s third time playing at the Monte-Carlo Masters, the first clay-court ATP 1000 event of the season.
He won the title in 2025 and has only one loss at the tournament so far.
That defeat came in his debut appearance in 2022 when he lost to Sebastian Korda in his opening match.
Korda also beat him at the Miami Open that same year, again in three sets. It was a matchup that seemed to trouble Alcaraz early on.
This time around, Korda isn’t in the field, having skipped Monte-Carlo after a busy stretch through Indian Wells and Miami.
