Carlos Alcaraz responds to Novak Djokovic’s ‘copyright’ claim on his serve

Novak Djokovic recently made a hilarious claim regarding Carlos Alcaraz’s serve technique.

During the Australian Open, video footage revealed that Alcaraz’s serve technique has been adjusted in recent months, and it now looks very similar to Novak Djokovic’s.

Upon noticing the similarities, Djokovic said: “As soon as I saw it, I sent him [Alcaraz] a message. I said, we have to speak about the copyrights [smiling].

“Then when I saw him here, I told him we have to talk about percentage of his winnings.

“Every ace I expect, you know, a tribute to me. Every ace that he makes here. Let’s see if he’s going to stick to the agreement.”

Alcaraz has since responded to Djokovic’s claim, joking that the contract ‘has been signed.’

In an interview with Tennis TV, Alcaraz said: “[laughing] The contract has been signed so… jokes aside, it was great that he had this sense of humour, that we had some laughs about it and having a great time talking about it.

“But I think it worked out [smiling].”

Alcaraz is currently preparing to take part in the Qatar Open, where he will face Arthur Rinderknech in the first round.

Alcaraz has been handed a favourable route to the title in Doha, with hard-court specialists like Jakub Mensik in the opposite half of the draw.

Alcaraz, who has never won the ATP 500 event in Doha, lost in the quarter-finals at last year’s event to Jiri Lehecka.

As for Novak Djokovic, the Serbian star recently withdrew from the event due to fatigue. He could play his next competitive match at the Indian Wells Masters.

Who will Alcaraz play first at the Qatar Tennis Championships?

Alcaraz is set to play Arthur Rinderknech in the Qatar Open first round.

The Shanghai Masters finalist should provide a stern test for the 22-year-old Spaniard, who will play his first match since completing the ‘Career Grand Slam’ at the Australian Open.

If Alcaraz defeats Rinderknech, he will play Valentin Royer in the second round. Royer, the world number 57, defeated Pierre Hugues-Herbert on Monday.

From there, Alcaraz could potentially face Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals. Khachanov has failed to defeat Alcaraz once in five meetings.
