Carlos Alcaraz was the standout player on the ATP Tour in 2025, and he fully deserved to finish the season as the world number one.
It’s only the second time he’s ended a year at the top, with his first making him the youngest ever to do so. Since then, Alcaraz has been rewriting records at an incredible pace, already holding six Grand Slam titles.
But there’s still one missing from his collection, and he isn’t shying away from the pressure that comes with chasing a career Grand Slam in Melbourne.
At a press conference before ‘Racquet at the Rock’ and the ‘Miami Invitational’, Alcaraz was asked by The Tennis Gazette about what it would mean to achieve this milestone and possibly become the youngest ever to do so.
Alcaraz talks career Grand Slam ambitions
Alcaraz’s remarks came on the back of comments he made just last week, when he said he’d rather win just the Australian Open in 2026 than two other majors. That alone showed where his priorities were headed this season.
That alone made it clear how much this particular milestone means to him. “It would be a great record, to be honest,” he began. “I’m really looking forward to winning Australia one day, I’m really excited about it.”
He also discussed how the timing of the first Grand Slam might play into his preparation and overall chances.
“The good part of it is that it’s the first Grand Slam. I start the season playing a Grand Slam straight away, which could be tricky with not a lot of competition rhythm, but I’m going to do a really great pre-season to be ready for that, and obviously, having that record of being the youngest player to complete the Calendar Grand Slam, it is something that sticks in my mind.”
Carlos Alcaraz shares update on hamstring injury
The media took the chance to ask about his fitness later in the same session, especially after he recently withdrew from the Davis Cup Finals.
Alcaraz missed the event due to a hamstring issue, saying: “It’s a bit disappointing, not being able to play at the Davis Cup, to be honest.
“I was really looking forward to playing for Spain, but you know, the season has been really long. Highs, lows, but right now I’m just getting treatment to be as good as soon as I can. Feeling a little bit of pain in the hamstrings.”
