Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has told BBC Sport that Jordan Pickford has changed now and is calm in goal.

Ancelotti made the comments following Everton’s 1-0 win against Southampton at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Monday evening.

England international goalkeeper Pickford started for the Toffees, and his performance was very encouraging.

The 26-year-old was calm between the posts, did not take any unnecessary risks, made the right decisions when to claim a cross and when to punch away the ball, and made a brilliant stop to deny Jannik Vestergaard towards the end.

Ancelotti told BBC Sport: “Jordan Pickford did really well too. When he was involved he did really well and was calm. He is now really calm in the goal and it was what he missed in the past. He has a lot of quality.”

Encouraging

Pickford has not always had the best of times this season, and there have been calls for him to be dropped.

However, the England international showed against Southampton how good he is, and Everton fans should be encouraged by it.

Pickford is still only 26, and he can only improve and grow as a footballer in the coming years.

For Everton to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, Pickford will have to continue to play well in the coming weeks.
