Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has told EvertonTV the message he has given to Anthony Gordon.

Gordon was in the Everton squad for their Premier League game against Brighton and Hove Albion before the two-week international break, as reported by The Liverpool Echo.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has yet to make an appearance in the league for the Toffees this season, but the teenager has scored two goals in two Carabao Cup ties, according to WhoScored.

Everton manager Ancelotti has shared what he has told Gordon regarding his chances in the first team.

Ancelotti told EvertonTV, as transcribed by The Liverpool Echo: “[I told him] To be patient, he needs to be patient because there is a lot of competition in the team in all the positions.

“I want to have competition in all the positions. Defenders, midfielders, strikers – also with our keepers. I think competition keeps the intensity of the training with quality. This is what we need to keep away the difficulties.

“He [Gordon] reacted really well. Above all they’re young so they want to play, this is good, to have ambition. This gives the players motivation.”

Staying patient and working hard

Everton have a very strong attacking midfield, especially following the signing of Colombia international James Rodriguez in the summer transfer window.

The former Real Madrid attacking midfielder has scored three goals and provided two assists in four league appearances for the Merseyside club, according to WhoScored.

It is not going to be easy for Gordon to play week in and week out for the Toffees this season, but if he works hard in training and shows improvement, then he could come on as a substitute from time to time.
