Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as quoted in The Liverpool Echo, amid speculation linking him with the Toffees and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Star reported last month that both Everton and Tottenham are interested in signing Hojbjerg from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer transfer window.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl himself has admitted that there is interest in the 24-year-old midfielder, as quoted in The Daily Star.

Ancelotti has described the Denmark international as a “good player”, but the Everton boss has not disclosed if he plans to sign him this summer.

Ancelotti told The Liverpool Echo about Hojbjerg: “I know Hojbjerg, he’s a good player.

“He is playing for Southampton, so I don’t want to talk about another Premier League player and that we are playing against soon. I can give an opinion about him at the end of the season.”

Tottenham Hotspur or Everton?

With neither Tottenham nor Everton likely to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, Hojbjerg may find himself with quite the dilemma if both clubs make an offer.

The 24-year-old would make both the Toffees and Spurs better in the middle of the park, and perhaps it would come down to which club pay more and show more ambition.

Interestingly, Tottenham and Everton will face each other in the Premier League on Monday evening.
