Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Carlo Ancelotti has been waxing-lyrical about Everton defender Ben Godfrey.
The Toffees star has been nothing short of a revelation this season, and Ancelotti says that the former Norwich man has taken him by surprise.
Godfrey struggled last season as the Canaries finished bottom of the Premier League, but he’s come good this term, much to the surprise of Ancelotti.
The Italian was asked if he thought Godfrey would go to the Euros with England next month, to which he replied:
“I don’t know, I only have to say that his season was really good, he was a fantastic signing in the summer,” Godfrey said.
“He did a season with a fantastic consistency while changing position most of the time. He played left back, right back, he played centre back – and every time he did really well, I’m really satisfied.
“I don’t know if he goes to the Euros, it’s not my problem or my decision. All I have to say is that Ben Godfrey was a fantastic player this season.
“He has no problem, he showed a fantastic quality and defensive ability. He’s really fast, really intelligent, it’s difficult to find him out of position.
“I’m really pleased and really surprised for his season.”

Ancelotti says he’s surprised by how good Godfrey’s been, and we can’t blame him.
Godfrey has looked like a real talent for a few years now, but he’s really stepped up a gear this season.
The defender has arguably been Everton’s best defender, and the fact that he’s being spoken about in terms of the Euros just goes to show how brilliant he’s been.
