Leeds United are said to be keen on the Carlisle United winger.
The Carlisle United director of football, David Holsworth, has confirmed the club has received interest in the Leeds United linked winger, Liam McCarron.
The Daily Mail recently claimed that Leeds are keen on McCarron, who has been watched by Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United – Holdsworth’s former club.
And asked about the rumour by The News and Star this week, the Londoner admitted that interest is mounting in the player reportedly valued at £250,000.
“We have received interest from a number of parties regarding both Jarrad Branthwaite (the teenage Carlisle centre-back) and Liam McCarron,” said Holdsworth.
Perhaps interestingly, Holdsworth told the same newspaper earlier in the week that Carlisle do not comment on rumours, relating to the specific case of Hallam Hope – a reported target for Swindon Town.
“Until we were in a position that we received a bid that was fitting – and that goes for every player, not just Hallam – we will make sure he is 100 per cent focused on returning to us in pre-season,” he said.
Leeds are in the market for wingers this summer, having seen Jack Harrison return to his parent club, Manchester City, and lost out on Daniel James to Manchester United.
Whether McCarron can make an immediate step up remains to be seen, however, given that he has only ever played 20 games of senior men’s football.
The 18-year-old’s contract is due to expire next summer, although it contains an option to be extended.
