David Holdsworth has told Carlisle United’s official website that he believes that the League Two side have started to build a working relationship with Leeds that could lead to the Whites loaning players to Brunton Park in the future.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men enjoyed an incredibly busy Monday as they announced three new signings, with Jack Harrison and Ben White arriving on loan deals from Premier League sides, and Liam McCarron signing permanently.

McCarron is expected to start the campaign with the under-23s having joined from the Cumbrians. But while Steven Pressley’s men may have lost one of their brightest prospects, the club’s director of football has suggested that he hopes that his side can work with Leeds again in the future with players potentially heading in the opposite direction.

“Speaking to the young man he made it clear that his intentions were to take up this opportunity and, at that point, negotiations continued between myself, the board and Leeds United to see if we could bring it to a conclusion,” Holdsworth told the club’s official website as he reflected on McCarron’s move.

“I have to say that I’ve built up a good working relationship with Leeds throughout this process and it could prove to be a good fit for us going forward should we want to consider any of their players for loan spells with us.”

The Whites have a remarkable group of young players at the club, so it is little surprise that Carlisle have set their sights on potentially landing some loan deals in the future.

Marcelo Bielsa the head coach

Bielsa used a number of the under-23s during his first season due to a scarcely-believable number of injuries, so he may be reluctant to let some of the club’s starlets leave this summer.

But there appears to be players amongst the squad who may have achieved almost all they can with the under-23s, but are also struggling to put themselves onto Bielsa’s radar given the depth ahead of them. So perhaps it should not be a huge surprise if one or two youngsters head to Carlisle during the coming windows.
