Wolverhampton Wanderers were just minutes away from a fantastic win at Stamford Bridge.
Carl Ikeme has taken to Twitter to comment on Wolves’ draw with Chelsea on Sunday, insisting that the disappointment is a sign of how far they have come.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were denied the chance to move three points clear of Watford as Eden Hazard’s neat finish in stoppage-time handed the Blues a point after Raul Jimenez’s opener 11 minutes after the break.
A look at the statistics hints that the encounter was almost completely one-sided. BBC Sport reports that Chelsea enjoyed 76 percent of possession, while Wolves had 20 fewer attempts on goal than their opponents. The Blues also had 13 corners, while Wolves failed to win a single corner.
But Nuno’s side defended extremely well for much of the contest. The home team did not manage to create many clear-cut chances throughout the contest, so Hazard’s equaliser came as something of a surprise.
And Ikeme certainly suggested that Wolves can feel hard done by not to secure all three points. The retired goalkeeper lauded the visitors’ effort to come so close to the three points.
Ikeme added that Wolves’ frustration at not taking home the win is a positive sign as it should remind the club about how well they have done in their first year back at the highest level.
