Amari’i Bell’s fine form in League One with Fleetwood Town has earned him plenty of admirers – surely Leeds United should be among them.

Leeds United look set to head into the New Year with a smile on their face after a run of five wins in six games leaves them well placed to play a major role in the promotion shake-up in the second half of this season.

But there is still a few problems Leeds need to solve in the January transfer window – namely finding a long-term starter to fill that tricky left-back position.

Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Vurnon Anita have all struggled to convince in the role while Gaetano Berardi, the usual first-choice option (below), even admitted to the Yorkshire Post last week that he felt Leeds should replace him with ‘a better player’.

Whether you could call Amari’i Bell ‘better’ than the versatile Swiss is up for debate. But with Fleetwood Town’s prized asset, and arguably the best left-back in League One, potentially on the move in January Leeds should surely be keeping a close eye on developments.

The Mirror (live transfer blog, 26th December), stated that promotion rivals Cardiff City are interested in the 23-year-old after seeing a bid rejected for him in August.

But Bell, whose sterling performances helped Fleetwood reach the play-offs last season, is the sort of natural, athletic and attack minded left-back Leeds have missed since Charlie Taylor departed for Burnley.

Bell is out of contract in June so could be available on a bargain fee – and Leeds should not let Cardiff beat them to the signature of a player who could solve their problem position once and for all.
