Cardiff City were beaten 2-0 at home by Derby County in a match that saw Chris Powell take charge of the away side after Nigel Pearson’s suspension by the Rams.
The defeat by fellow strugglers Derby now has Paul Trollope’s side languishing second from bottom with only eight points from 10 games in the Championship.

After going behind to Tom Ince’s 55th-minute goal, Cardiff’s night got dramatically worse as Nick Blackman scored with a penalty after he was tripped by Matt Connolly, who was sent off for the foul.

But while Derby secured their first win in seven Championship games, there was a sense of bemusement at the decision to suspend Pearson with the news coming just hours before kick-off, as reported by Sky Sports.
Despite the suspension, Derby showed no ill-effects and took a deserved lead through Ince after a slick finish by the midfielder as they took hold of the game in the second half, after a good start by the Bluebirds.
But it was Connolly’s foul and resulting red card in the 80th minute that sealed Cardiff’s fate and condemn them to a sixth defeat from ten games.
