Neil Warnock was appointed as the new Cardiff City manager on Wednesday, and will be expected to lead his side clear of trouble in the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, recently appointed Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock shared what motivated him to return to football management.

The 67-year-old has held the managerial post at 15 separate clubs throughout his career, and his experience will be crucial in guiding the Bluebirds away from the relegation zone.

Warnock was interviewed live on talkSPORT this morning, and identified a particular game as the moment that whetted his appetite to return to management:

“What whetted my appetite to return was the Celtic-Manchester City game. I spoke to Brendan Rodgers before the game and I watched it and it was unbelievable. I was jumping up near the end. I was really proud that night with the passion they gave. That is what I missed in football. I love that passion when players give everything, even if the results don’t go right. That is what I missed and I am really looking forward to the challenge at Cardiff.”

Warnock certainly has his work cut-out at the Cardiff City Stadium, with the Welsh outfit currently languishing in 23rd position in the Championship table, one point adrift from safety.

The next two games could prove crucial for Cardiff. Back-to-back home matches against Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday will surely be looked upon as must-win games, what with an incredibly tough looking fixture list in November, including trips to Newcastle United and Aston Villa and home games against league-leaders Huddersfield Town and fourth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

Warnock is certainly no shrinking violet, and he will need every bit of his renowned motivational skills to inject life back into the Bluebird’s stuttering campaign.
