Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope has admitted that he cannot have any complaints about the decision that saw Leeds United awarded a penalty on Saturday, but suggested that there was a lack of consistency from the official, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

After a goalless first-half at the Cardiff City Stadium, the Whites were handed the chance to take the lead shortly after the hour-mark when the referee deemed that United defender Pontus Jansson was being held in the box as a corner came in, and duly pointed to the spot.

Much like they did in last season’s meeting, Leeds would score again late on to secure a 2-0 win. And Trollope insisted that the spot-kick was a turning point in the contest and suggested that it perhaps should not have been the only penalty the referee gave.

“The refereeing decision changed the game, which was frustrating for us because there was a lot going on at set-pieces at both ends,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I’m not saying it wasn’t a penalty but if he’s giving it then he could be giving a few at either end.”

As Trollope suggested, there were several occasions when the referee could have given a foul in the box as both sides were guilty of holding onto their opponents throughout the game despite it being well publicised that there has been an attempt to clamp down on the issue at the start of this campaign.

His frustration may well be based around the fact that it was one example of how his side had little luck during the game. The Bluebirds struck the woodwork twice but ultimately came away from the fixture with nothing as Leeds proved to be a lot more clinical when the chances came their way.
