Brentford captain Christian Norgaard is not surprised by reports suggesting Thomas Frank is a candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Premier League giants Liverpool, insisting that the speculation is ‘quite natural’.

OK, Thomas Frank might not be the first name on the lips of many Liverpool supporters. Xabi Alonso appears to be the favourite not only amongst the fanbase but amongst the Anfield decision-makers too, HITC Football understands – but the Brentford boss certainly merits discussion.

Frank, after all, not only took Brentford into the Premier League for the very first time but has kept them there too, with great deal of comfort. The Bees even finished in a vertigo-inducing ninth spot last term. January’s 3-1 dismantling of Jurgen Klopp’s side just one of many highlights.

According to The Athletic, Frank has his share of admirers on Merseyside too. A claim that has certainly not taken his Brentford skipper by surprise.

Liverpool like Brentford manager Thomas Frank

“I shouldn’t be the one who says he can or he can’t. (leave for a club like Liverpool),” Norgaard tells ViaPlay. “There is no doubt that the work he has done here has been fantastic.

“It is completely natural that (the work he has done) also makes him interesting for bigger clubs than Brentford. Whether Liverpool is the right step or whether there is a step between Brentford and Liverpool, that is for him to decide.

“It may also be that he feels that he is not finished here.

“But it is quite natural with the work he has done that there are clubs bigger than Brentford who think he would be an interesting coach.”

Jurgen Klopp is leaving Anfield

Frank’s tactical flexibility, his charismatic personality and his penchant for turning good players into great ones – see Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo and David Raya – will certainly do his chances of emerging as a leading candidate for the Liverpool job no harm.

HITC Football understands that Alonso, who masterminded a 3-0 thrashing of Bayern Munich last weekend, is in pole position, however. Brighton’s Roberto de Zerbi is another target.

Ange Postecoglou, who has transformed the football and the mood at Tottenham Hotspur, has also been mentioned.
