You could probably argue that Tony Adams knows a thing or two about what’s needed to captain Arsenal.

The former Gunners defender clocked over 500 league appearance for the North Londoners and many of those were as skipper.

Adams won England’s top flight – including two Premier League titles – on four occasions in the red and white of Arsenal.

But it is often levelled at the current crop that they are majorly lacking in leaders.

Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has the armband right now, after Unai Emery stripped Granit Xhaka of the privilege back in 2019.

But even then, the Arsenal striker is more of a ‘lead by example’ type than an Adams or a Patrick Vieira.

Aubameyang turns 32 in June and long term, he isn’t going to be skipper at the Emirates Stadium for the long term.

And Adams believes that Rob Holding – a £2 million signing from Bolton in 2016 – is made of the right stuff to captain the club that he loves.

He told Stadium Astro when asked which of the current squad has captain qualities: “Let’s start with now and for me I’ve always been a big Rob Holding fan. I think Rob’s got the right attitude. He’s a captain in the making.”
