Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Joe Gomez has been full of praise for Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman was Gomez’s usual centre-half partner during the Reds’ title-winning campaign, and understandably, the Englishman has a lot of admiration for the former PFA Player of the Year winner.
Gomez was tasked with creating his dream five-a-side team made up of any Premier League player past or present, and while he was tempted to choose Rio Ferdinand, he went with van Dijk, claiming that he could be an all-time Premier League great.
What’s Gomez said?
The defender was full of praise for his partner.
“Liverpool have had some great centre-halves like Carragher, Hyypia and Daniel Agger, but for me, Virg is going to be looked at as an all-time Premier League great, not only at Liverpool. Rio was an inspiration being from south-east London and the career he had with his style of play, he’s up there, but I still think Virg is capable of being in that category,” Gomez said.

Already is
Gomez says van Dijk is capable of being an all-time great, but we’d argue that he already is.
He’s a former Player of the Year winner, and he was Liverpool’s key player as they won their first Premier League title.
Van Dijk is certainly in the conversation for being the best centre-back this league has ever seen.
Gomez is absolutely right about van Dijk’s excellence, but his legacy as an all-time great is already secured.
