Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has told Irish News that a move to Holland fell through because of Alisson’s injury.
The Reds have high hopes for Kelleher, and Jurgen Klopp called him a ‘sensational talent’ last season having played against Milton Keynes Dons in the Carabao Cup.
The Irish talent also featured against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup last term, showing some promise that he could eventually be a first-team goalkeeper.
He hasn’t yet made his Premier League debut though, and he is now getting to an age where he needs to be playing first-team football.
Kelleher turns 22 this month, and with just four first-team appearances to his name, he may need to head out on loan to play games.
Now, Kelleher claims that he could have left Liverpool for a loan move to Holland, with a ‘few clubs interested’, but the deal collapsed due to Alisson’s injury.

The Brazilian suffered an injury before the transfer deadline, so Liverpool just couldn’t let Kelleher go – but he is still hopeful that he will be able to get a loan move in January as he is desperate to play games.
“There were a few clubs interested, there was talk of going to Holland but an injury to Alisson at the wrong time killed anything for me,” said Kelleher.
“We’ll just review it and see what happens in the future. I wouldn’t say I’m frustrated. Of course, I want to play games as soon as possible. I’ve been patient. I have good patience. If January comes and I get out, that’s great. And if I don’t get out, I’m not going to blow up,” he added.
