Leeds United new boy Sam Greenwood has revealed that he can’t wait to start working under Marcelo Bielsa.
The 18-year-old striker joined the Whites in a £3 million deal on Friday.
Greenwood, who joined from Arsenal, is the latest teenager to sign up to the Leeds project following an earlier transfer of Joe Gelhardt.
It remains to be seen what kind of role awaits the former Gunners hitman.
With Leeds now in the Premier League, there’s a lot less room for Bielsa to experiment with young players.
But Greenwood is very enthused about the prospect of working under the legendary coach – who has managed Athletic Bilbao, Marseille and Argentina’s national side – nevertheless.
He told LUTV: “It’s so exciting. I can’t wait to work under him, work hard and hopefully impress him.”
He added when asked about his goal for the next season: “Obviously try make a breakthrough [into the first team] and make a name for myself in front of the Leeds fans.”
If Bielsa signs Rodrigo from Valencia, and widespread speculation indicates that he will, then it’ll be harder for Greenwood to stake a claim in the senior side.
It’s already a huge ask by virtue of the fact he has no experience with men’s football as of yet, but with Patrick Bamford already at the club, a deal for Rodrigo would further suggest that the teenager – who started his career at Sunderland – is one for the future, not one for the now.
