It looks like Tottenham Hotspur fans might not be far away from seeing Japhet Tanganga once again.
The 21-year-old broke into Spurs’ senior side under Jose Mourinho last season and by virtue of the fact he ousted Danny Rose from the first XI, you could argue the club’s academy star has a big future.
But Tanganga didn’t play a single minute during Project Restart when Tottenham resumed their season due to injury.
And a different issue has prevented him from playing in any of the club’s three games this season.
But Tanganga was spotted in first-team training this afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League qualifier with Macedonian outfit Shkendija Tetovo.
The young Englishman is one of their own in North London, having risen through the ranks, and suffice to say that some Lilywhites fans are excited that he seems to be nearing a comeback.
When he’s fit, Mourinho might use him more as a centre-back this season.
That’s because Tottenham have spent £27 million on signing left-back Sergio Reguilon and, with Ben Davies as cover, the Portuguese coach doesn’t need him in that role now.
Instead, Tanganga will probably be used as a centre-back, but he clearly has a great attitude, evident by Mourinho’s affinity for him, and he’ll be undaunted by trying to displace a Davinson Sanchez or Toby Alderweireld.
