He’s still got it.

Pulling away to the far post and latching on to a pinpoint Moi Elyounoussi cross, the evergreen Leigh Griffiths guided a typically predatory header into the bottom corner of the Aberdeen net.

As Dons hearts all around him snapped in two, Celtic’s long-serving number nine trotted back to the centre circle like nothing had happened.

This was just another goal, his 234th to be precise, for a man who has made close-range finishes look like second nature throughout a prolific trophy-laden career north of the border.

With Griffiths potentially on his way back to Easter Road this summer once his Celtic contract expires, the Scotland international gave his future employers an almighty boost with that dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser at Pittodrie (Record).

An Aberdeen win would have seen Stephen Glass’s side move to within four points of Hibs in third place. As it is, that gap still stands at six.

Jack Ross’s high-flying team are in control of their own destiny, Europa League qualification now within their grasp.

And if Griffiths does indeed return for a second spell at Hibernian – eight years after that prolific loan spell in green and white – he will return a hero in the making.
