Clinton Morrison has said on Sky Sports News (2:02pm, January 14, 2023) that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will not be able to sign Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.

The former Crystal Palace forward has praised Nunes and has said that he understands why Liverpool want to sign the 24-year-old attacking midfielder from Premier League rivals in January.

However, the Sky Sports pundit does not think that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners will be able to bring the Portugal international to Anfield in the middle of the season.

Wolves signed Nunes from Sporting Lisbon only in the summer of 2022.

According to Sky Sports, the Wanderers paid an initial transfer fee of £38 million for the 24-year-old.

According to the Sunday Mirror (2/10: pg 78), Liverpool want to sign the attacking midfielder now.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

Sky pundit says Matheus Nunes will not join Liverpool in January

Morrison said about Nunes: “He is a good young player. He wants to drive with the ball in midfield. He is really comfortable in possession.”

The pundit added: “You can understand why Liverpool would want to sign him now. I am surprised that Wolves would be thinking about letting him go. He has been a top player for them. He is slowing but surely getting into it.”

Morrison concluded: “Good signing for Wolves. I can’t see him going to Liverpool in this window. That’s for sure. “

Could a January transfer happen?

In our view, Liverpool will not be able to sign Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.

We do not think that Wolves will be open to selling the playmaker in the middle of the season.

After all, the Wanderers are aiming to avoid the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season.

Moreover, Wolves signed Nunes only in the summer of 2022.
