Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been waxing-lyrical over Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe amid his summer links to Aston Villa.
Ferdinand was embroiled in a discussion about Villa’s Jack Grealish and his potential transfer move this summer, and inevitably, talk turned to the Midlands club’s transfer plans and their seemingly failed pursuit of Smith Rowe.
The Villans put in numerous offers for the attacking midfielder, with the Gunners rejecting each of those, and Ferdinand says that he’s too good to leave Arsenal.

Ferdinand was speaking about Grealish before touching on Smith Rowe.
“He’s paid his dues, he’s done great things and got them up. Without him it’s a different team, but listen, they’re recruiting, they’re not messing about. They got Buendia, bid for Smith Rowe, they were taking liberties, they can’t get Smith Rowe, Smith Rowe can’t leave Arsenal, he’s too good,” Ferdinand said.
Too good to leave Arsenal
Ferdinand is right, Smith Rowe is too good of a player for Arsenal to sell, especially to a club like Aston Villa.
Yes, Villa have a lot of pulling power these days, but Smith Rowe is one of Arsenal’s crown jewels, and they would have been fools to sell him.
The 21-year-old still has so much room to grow, and if he’s to leave the Gunners, he’s going to move to one of Europe’s elite clubs, not Aston Villa – with all due respect to Dean Smith’s side.
