Graeme Souness has said that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool need to replace Joel Matip.

The Liverpool legend has said that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp cannot rely on Joel Matip due to his fitness issues.

Liverpool told they cannot rely on Joel Matip

The pundit wants Liverpool to bring in a central defender to replace the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) Matip.

Souness told The Mirror, as transcribed by TBR: “I think the defence is more than good enough, the goalkeeper is more than good enough, but the blend in the midfield is not quite right.

“I’d like to see them get another central defender, Matip can’t keep himself fit for a long, hard Premier League year.”

Liverpool need to find long-term successor to Joel Matip

In our view, Liverpool need to find someone who can eventually replace Joel Matip in the team.

Graeme Souness is right about Matip.

The Cameroonian star has had injury problems in recent years.

And he is also 32 now.

Liverpool need to find a world-class defender in his mid-20s who would be able to make an immediate impact on the team.

Matip has made two appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

The Liverpool no. 32 made 12 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.

The 32-year-old scored one goal in those games.

Matip also made two starts and two substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League for Jurgen Klopp’s side last campaign.

The defender scored one goal in those games.

Matip is under contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2024.
